Ups Patching Tool

Posted July 23rd, 2020
I understand how this tutorial isn't needed, but there are so many new pipol that still kept on asking how to patch... =/
Anyway... No fancy things here. I'm going straight to the point.

This original UPS patcher is called Tsukuyomi UPS. The name is an homage to one of the most well known and polished IPS patchers around, Lunar IPS by FuSoYa. (Tsukuyomi is the name of the moon god in Japanese mythology.) byuu, the author of this program, has more recently put out an updated UPS patcher, upset, as a.

  • What You Need
    1. A patch of the hack you want to play...
    2. A patcher (Lunar IPS Patcher, UPS Patcher (download Winrar if you can't extract/open .rar files))
  • Information

Hacks/Mods have different patches available. If the patch is .ips, then you'll need Lunar IPS Patcher. If the patch is .ups, then you'll need the UPS Patcher. If the patch download is in .rar, and you can't open or extract it, then download and install WinRAR.

  • Lunar IPS Steps

Double click the smily red moon thingy.

    Click 'Apply IPS Patch'.

    Select the hack's patch.

    Select your ROM.

Done! You can now and play the game!
  • UPS Steps

Select the proper folder, depending on your operating system.

    Double-click the patcher.

Click 'Apply patch to an existing file'.

    Click the first 'Browse' button.

    Choose the hack's patch file.

    Click the second 'Browse' button.

    Select your ROM.

    Click the 'Apply Patch' button.

Done! You can now and play the game!

Archive contains Windows and Linux executables.

The goal of UPS is different from NINJA / xdelta / etc. It is designed to be a direct replacement for IPS. The difficulty of implementing it is equal to IPS (it has trickier pointers, but no RLE magic.) The spec for UPS supports any file size, though the binary is currently limited to 4GB files due to libc limitations. But thanks to a condensed pointer encoding method, the file size can be infinite. UPS is completely future proof in that regard.

This original UPS patcher is called Tsukuyomi UPS. The name is an homage to one of the most well known and polished IPS patchers around, Lunar IPS by FuSoYa. (Tsukuyomi is the name of the moon god in Japanese mythology.)

Ups Patching

byuu, the author of this program, has more recently put out an updated UPS patcher, upset, as a replacement for Tsukuyomi UPS. So if you are using Tsukuyomi UPS it is recommended to use upset instead, if you are still using the UPS format.

Ups File Patcher

byuu has also come out with another patch format called BPS that he recommends over UPS, and originally he put out his patcher beat for BPS. However, more recently, because beat is slow, his homepage now strongly recommends that people using the BPS format use the faster program Floating IPS by Alcaro for creating and applying BPS patches instead.
